Business owner Chris started his journey through the world of miniature railways at just 8 years old. (the minimum age requirements and restrictions have changed a lot since then!) Chris found himself volunteering at Swanley New Barn railway, getting stuck in with every task, role and opportunity going. Not just the typical child wanting to drive around trains, but totally immersed in all things mechanical and engineering.
Whilst here he was given multiple opportunities and experiences, all of which, especially continuously from such a young age has been fundamental to the rest of his career. A natural in the field, Chris was headhunted whilst at Swanley and asked to help improve and extend the existing line at Bolebroke castle, this was also a fulltime C.M.E position.
Currently, and for the last 15 years Chris has held the position of C.M.E and management at Barnards Miniature Railway but is also a very keen and committed mentor to many of its members.
Chris has continuously volunteered at miniature railways since the very beginning, splitting his time as much as he could between locations, and always being on the other end of the phone for when anyone needed him.
Naturally with the progression of CMD Engineering, the free time to spend volunteering has decreased, but where possible you’ll find Chris at the BMR on a Sunday and for special events. His position at the BMR isn’t restricted to just being there physically, a lot of work and attention goes on in the background, whether this be maintenance plans, liaising with members, management meetings or planning ahead for the future of the railway.
Chris also takes a great interest in the miniature railways we supply to and will always answer any questions, offer any advice and visit as often as he can.
