Description

Tyke

Tyke came about as a result of requests for a Scamp with a forward facing seat for use on continuous tracks. The Scamp has a single, 1 horsepower drive motor, and two, 0.5 horsepower drive motors, therefore all wheels are driven.

It has the same pulling power as a Scamp. Designed to be a petrol-electric or battery loco, benefitting from a quick changeover possible between the two. Allowing for quiet emission free running in the garden or when at an indoor event plus all day running with passengers at a club.

The transmission consists of a 1.5 horsepower petrol engine driving a 1 horsepower permanent magnet motor used as as a generator or dynamo.

The power generated is fed into a speed controller then through a reversing switch to the two half horsepower drive motors. The generator unit can be removed in a minute and replaced with a battery box to suit your need.

Dimensions

1350mm tall to the top of the roof.

810mm tall from the rail to the top of the controller handle.

985mm tall with the roof stowed for transport.

1515mm long over the couplings and 500mm wide over the frame.

The kit

Consists of all the laser cut steel parts to build the loco frame, bogies, bodywork and controls. Wheel sets, machined dynamo pulley, welded pivot pins and layshafts are also included in this kit.

The Tyke is a new loco to commercial production, and is already proving to be popular. Designer Colin Edmondson is always on hand to assist with your build and offer any advice and encouragement. As are the members of the “Scamp Locomotive Group” on Facebook.

A shopping list is supplied for all the other parts required to complete the build.
