Whistle
A railway guard’s whistle is an important signalling tool. Used by train guards to communicate with the train crew and its passengers during train operations.
Whistles are part of the safety equipment that ensures the smooth and safe functioning of train services, especially in situations where visual or radio communication might not be possible.
The guard’s whistle is often used to signal specific train movements, such as starting or stopping, or to communicate instructions to the driver.
In emergency situations, the guard’s whistle can be used to alert passengers and other railway personnel of danger or to signal an emergency stop. This can include cases of track obstructions or people standing too near to the tracks as the train approaches.
Commonly used in miniature railways to alert passengers who may have their arms, legs or bags outside of the carriages.
Often coupled with a set of both red and green guards flags. To make the dispatch of trains a smoother process.
